Governance

 The Governing Body;

As chair of governors I would like, on behalf of the governors of Saint Pius X welcome you to the governors section of the school website. We want to share with you what our role is, how we work and who we are. Saint Pius X is a Catholic school so the majority of the governing body are appointed by the Bishop of Hallam and are known as Foundation Governors. This governor group have a legal duty to preserve and develop the schools Catholic character by ensuring that the curriculum is taught in line with gospel values and promotes spiritual and moral values. Foundation governors must also support the Bishops diocesan education strategy. Saint Pius X also has two parent governors. 

 

How the governors work;

The Local Governing Body will, going forward be known as a Local Academy Committee  (LAC) and meetings will take place each term. Some members of the LAC will also be take on the role of a LINK governor, they will take on  responsibility for taking an oversight of a particular area of school life e.g.  safeguarding, Special Education Needs and Disabilities (SEND), Careers Education.

 

The LINK governor role involves visiting the school, supporting the member of staff who is responsible for that particular subject within the school and keeping the LAC informed about their area of responsibility.

 

The Role of the Governing Body;

The St Francis Trustees retain overall accountability for all the schools within the trust they have however delegated specific responsibilities to the Saint Pius X LAC. The LAC will have responsibility for the conduct of the school with a view to promoting high standards of education attainment within a caring catholic environment while ensuring the safety and wellbeing of all its pupils and staff.

 

Specific responsibilities include;

  • Setting the school’s values, vision and strategic aims, agreeing objectives and agreeing some of the school policies.
  • Monitoring and evaluating performance, attendance rates and the progress of students
  • Acting as a critical friend to the Head Teacher and Senior Leadership Team to support them in managing the school
  • The school is fully compliant with statutory safeguarding requirements
  • Serving as a link between the school its pupils, parents, carers, staff, parishes and the wider community
  • Participating actively in the Bishop’s vision for Catholic education in the diocese as a member of the St Francis Multi-academy trust

 

We also become involved in several other areas including admissions, staff recruitment, complaints, exclusions, inspections, monitoring visits.
