Film Studies
KEY STAGE 4
Film studies is an option subject which offers a wide range of exciting opportunities by allowing students to research, plan and produce professional looking products. The analytical skills students develop here also help in English Literature and other subjects. It encourages students to be self-motivated as the course is paced to prepare for working in a real media environment. Topics include how filmmakers achieve some of their special effects.

- ‘Singing in the Rain’
- ‘Grease’
- ‘Submarine’
- ‘Me and Earl and the dying girl’
CURRICULUM TIME
Y10: 2 hours
Y11: 3 hours
ASSESSMENT
Unit 1: (35%) External written exam - comparing films and film analysis (1.5 hours)
Unit 2: (35%) External written exam - study of world film (1.5 hours)
Unit 3: (30%) Non-Exam Assessment - film production i.e. planning, creating and promoting an original film segment or writing an original script. The final piece will be a 2-4 minute sequence of a film from a favourite genre such as: comedy, drama or horror
